Holy moly it has been a while since I have written on my blog. Sometimes I get so caught up with life that time just escapes me! As the year winds down, I’ve had a chance to reflect on 2019: Mistakes, lessons learned, accomplishments – all of it! I did a round up of some of my biggest takeaways to share with you. Read on for some of my thoughts as we close out this amazing year –
You have to really push yourself in order to grow out of your comfort zone.
Okay so this one is directed towards PoshFest. I was a little hesitant to apply to speak at PoshFest because I had never really opened up to anyone about how I got started with reselling but I knew that I wanted to tell my story. When I was actually selected to speak it was kind of like a wake up call – this is REALLY going to happen. I was nervous to tell my story because it was very personal and hard to tell to family, let alone to thousands of people and have it be broadcasted on the internet. But I did it! And I had an incredible time. Through telling my story I had the opportunity to connect with so many amazing people who were impacted by what I had to say.
I am so grateful for the people I met and for the experience that I was able to have. Speaking at PoshFest catapulted me out of my comfort zone and it feels so freeing. Like this heart wrenching narrative that I have been clinging on to is finally lifted from me. 2019 has revealed to me the growth that lives on the other side of the comfort zone, it’s such an incredible place to be.
You have to follow a path that works for you, not the one that works for everyone else
This one is about social media. I’ve really been working on putting out content that is useful, that teaches something, or shares a moment or a journey. I want to put something out there that gives hope, encourages, educates, is humorous, I want what I create to be meaningful. I think this year I sort of got lost in that along the way. I put so much emphasis on what I saw other people are doing and how what they are doing was being received that I felt like what I was putting out there wasn’t creative anymore. It was my own take, but shaped in a way that wasn’t completely representative of me. When I lost sight of my own path, it started to feel mundane, it felt like…WORK. And it hadn’t felt that way before. I had to let that narrative go and refocus. You can’t find success by following some script of what you think will be accepted or what you think is working for everyone else. We are all different and have our own situations and experiences. You have to follow a path that works for you and your situation, not the one that works for everyone else.
We have time
This one I have been repeating to myself almost daily. I am always in this big hurry to complete this, or to reach that milestone or to make sure that I accomplish this specific thing right now. Looking back I have wasted a lot of time by putting unnecessary deadlines on myself. I’m learning that as long as you are consistent with your actions, work with intention and continue to do the right things each and every day, it’s going to happen. You can’t force it to happen sooner. You’re just going to get burnt out and lose sight of why you started in the first place.
We are on the cusp of beginning a brand new decade, we have time.
