So, ya wanna do big things, huh? So do I. But I have also come to terms with the fact that Rome wasn’t built in a day and unless I strike it rich and win the lottery, it’s going to take time and hard work in order to do the things that I want to do. My whole life is guided by goal setting and small accomplishments that inch me closer and closer towards my objectives.
It’s easy to get lost in the big picture, the house, the cars, the business, whatever that is for you. But blindly working day in and day out without having a clear path to follow can be confusing and for me that kind of busy work causes me to get lost. So what do I do with that? I work backwards. Read on for my theory on this.
Have you ever tried to solve a maze and end up crashing in to a bunch of little walls along the way? Well, when I was like 7 I realized that if you trace the maze backwards and start from the end point and gradually work your way back to the start, you can usually complete the puzzle faster and without crashing in to any walls. I apply that same principle to the way I set goals. I ask myself where I want to be in 6 months, a year and what does that look like.
When talking reselling I have a number set in my mind. I know how many sales I want to make and the amount of work that I’m willing to do. Then I set tangible daily and weekly goals for myself to follow and to work off of. It’s kind of like laying out little breadcrumbs for myself to lead me to my next objective. I like this process because it allows me to work with intention.
I know what’s next and what I am working towards. I can work more, less or differently all while fully knowing what I need to accomplish. I also take time to evaluate what I’ve done. If I’m consistently crushing my goals week after week then maybe I’m not challenging myself enough, I need to push myself more. If I’m struggling each week and barely scraping by then maybe I need to give myself a little grace and scale back.
But the whole point in this is to pay attention to what you are doing, know your purpose and have a clear plan on how you’re going to get there. It’s good sometimes to keep your head in the clouds and dream but a dream without a plan is just a wish. Let’s make it more of a reality.
