I’ve been selling on Poshmark for over two years and have had my fair share of mistakes. But thankfully those mistakes have translated in to lessons learned. I’ve tried many different strategies to maintain consistent sales through the Poshmark App and am going to share with you my top 8 tips for making sales daily.
Some of these tips are more basic and may seem obvious, however, they are equally as important as the items that are more strategic. For me, it’s crucial to observe and practice all of these tips, all the time. At the end of the day if you are looking for consistency, you have to be consistent yourself. The days that I slack off or skip a step or two, it’s almost always reflected in my sales.
Just a quick PSA: The tips I’m sharing with you are things that work for me. It’s absolutely not the only way to be successful selling on Poshmark. There are so many different strategies that work for other sellers and ultimately you just have to find what works for you! If you like it, awesome! Take it and try it out. If you don’t that’s okay too! It’s all about the process.
So without further ado, my top 8 tips!
I’m going to start with some of the more basic tips, these are MUST DO things to bring in sales daily.
- Engage with other Users
Last year I attended PoshFest 2018 – It’s the annual conference that Poshmark puts on. One of the biggest points that Team Posh drilled in on is that Poshmark is a SOCIAL APP. People like to engage. It’s been proven in the data. Follow other users, share items from their closets, when people bundle items, leave a comment to open the door for communication. Welcome new Poshers to the app. The more you interact, the better your chances are for a sale.
2. Share, Share, Share!
When you share your items it goes back up to the top of the search results. As other users share their items, they go on top of yours. Share regularly to keep your items fresh and easier to find when buyers are searching for items. I try to share my entire closet at least once a day and then share more often as I have time. Waiting for coffee? Share a few items. Rocking baby to sleep? Share your closet! Stuck in traffic? Share time! Totally KIDDING! (Unless you’re the passenger LOL) The point is, if you have downtime, put those sharing fingers to work.
3. Take Clear Photos
I can’t stress this enough. This is SO important. Would you buy something from a stranger on the internet that’s blurry or so dark you can’t tell if you’re looking at a sweater or at an actual alpaca? Nope, I wouldn’t either. Take your pictures in a bright room and try to keep a steady hand when photographing your item. Pretty backgrounds and all the little extras are nice to have and they can definitely help – but having a clear photo is absolutely a necessity.
4. Write Thorough Descriptions
Cute Dress. No – that’s not enough. What do you want to know about an item before you buy it? I like to include the style name whenever possible, this is especially important for more high end items. Shoppers generally use the search feature to make purchases when browsing on the app so it’s important to include details that will help them find your listing. (Pro Tip: Use the style number on the tag to google the specifics) I also try to always include the fabric content (or take a photo of the tag), describe whatever makes it special (plunge v neck, ruched sides, asymmetrical hem, etc.) and also provide measurements.
Okay, now that we’ve touched on the basics, I’m going to share with you some of the more calculated things I do to make sales.
5. Strategic Following & Sharing
Sometimes if I’m having a hard time selling an item, I will strategically follow and share certain Posher’s closets. To do this, I’ll search for the same brand/style/size that I’m selling and then will filter my search results to just in and then sold. I’ll pick out some items that look like mine and in the same size and will follow and share the user’s closets that have liked that same item. IMPORTANT: I always make sure that the item that I’m trying to sell is at the top of my closet before I do this. That way if and when they go to my closet to return the favor and share my items, they will see that same item first.
6. Bundle Likes for Buyers
If I have a buyer that likes more than one item in my closet, I’ll put them in a bundle for them and make an offer, usually with free shipping (depending on the price, of course). Leave a comment thanking them for stopping by and let them know that you can ship it out ASAP if they are interested in purchasing (the follow through is key here – you need to actually ship it right away!) This creates a sense of urgency and I have found that in most cases they will end up purchasing that bundle.
7. Use Your Tools!
Take advantage of the Offer To Likers feature and Closet Clear Out. Everyone likes a good deal! You are putting your item back in front of a buyer that has already expressed interest in it and are offering it at a discounted price. I would recommend pricing your items to allow for this. I know that 80% of my sales come from Offer to Likers so I need to have enough room built in to my pricing to support this model.
8. Shop Your Own Closet
We’ve all done it. Forgotten to upload a photo, misspelled a brand, mistakes happen! I try to shop my own closet periodically to view my items in the eyes of a buyer to see what I can improve on or if there is any important information I may have left out. It can also be a good opportunity to gain some helpful insight to some changes you can make to create a more welcoming space for your potential buyers. There’s always room for improvement!
