Thrift Store Style

Before I started Reselling, I had never stepped foot inside of a thrift store. The closest I came to thrifting was when I would go with my Dad to make donations at the end of the year. I know, that’s pretty bad.

After I had my daughter, shopping for new clothes was really hard. I did NOT have that unmistakable “snapback” that we see all over social media. My body changed, dramatically. My go to stores like Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe, didn’t quite sit as nice as they did before. I found myself no longer fitting in to clothes from the classic mall brands that I had come to love and I was also not ready to start shopping at Dress Barn. I felt lost. I didn’t really have a style and I couldn’t figure out where to shop or what kind of fashion was right for me.

As a reseller, I spend countless hours inside of thrift stores sorting through racks of clothing to source for inventory. I think it’s safe to say that I have been exposed to hundreds of new brands. Brands that I didn’t know existed. I’ve learned what quality materials look and feel like. The thrift store opened my eyes to so many new clothing concepts that I hadn’t really ever considered before and to be completely honest, without thrifting, I don’t think I ever would have. Before reselling, $20 for a pair of jeans was expensive to me. I wouldn’t dare step foot in a Nordstrom where a nice pair of jeans can be upwards of $100. I was missing out. I didn’t get to experience quality clothing. Thrifting allowed high end, on trend looks to become attainable, and for a good price.

I am by no means a fashionista. With my normal day to day schedule, responsibilities and the kids, I’m lucky if I go to work with a matching outfit on! But the difference is that now I have options, options that I didn’t have before. I can appreciate the smooth texture of a 100% silk blouse, I know that you CANNOT just throw cashmere in the washing machine (RIP Vince Sweater).

So if you are anything like I was and you’re trying to navigate your way through this fashion space, consider a pre-loved wardrobe. Check out the Poshmark App to find your next trendy piece.
